A Thousand Splendid Suns

Khaled Hosseini's new book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, is coming out May 22. Mr. Hosseini became an international sensation with his first novel, "The Kite Runner."

Now, the Afghan-American novelist has a new book that promises to be as moving as his first. Another tale of Afghanistan in turmoil, "A Thousand Splendid Suns," covers three decades of civil war and Taliban tyranny from the perspective of two women, Mariam and Laila.

Read an excerpt.

Sounds like it might be interesting. Is this history, historical fiction?

Thanks for stopping by my photo blog earlier. :)

Thanks Anne for your comment. This book is a novel against the background of Afghanistan. The author wrote the Kite Runner have you heard of it?

No, I've never heard of these books. I read very little fiction. I was kind of hoping it was a history/sociology/politics type book. Yes, I'm very boring. :p

No you're very intelligent...but fiction is so much fun!

Hey, I didn't know it was your birthday! Happy birthday!

Yes I do occasionally read fiction, but I prefer to get the movie when I can, and save my time for non-fiction.

It was too funny how I made a reference to a fictional novel at my place just as we were having this discussion. Great timing - haha!

I cannot wait to get my copy. I have a 40% off coupon from Borders, but it is also cheap on Amazon. By the way, thanks for your comment--I will respond to them tomorrow, but I wanted to see your blog. I've read everything by O'Brien--I actually wasn't hot on In the Lake of the Woods, but Going after Cattico (sp) was a masterpiece. Did you read Northern Lights, his first one? Eerie. It really recaptures the alienation of the returning vet and the guilt of those who stayed behind.

Thanks Anne! It's good to meet ya, Teach. I shall return and link you soon with your permission.

I now own it. I won't be able to read it for at least a week. I shall share.

Enemy, would love if you would share and let me know what you think. Looking forward...
