Hurry up and read The Painted Veil by Somerset Maugham because the film is coming out in New York and Los Angeles on December 20, 2006, December 29 elsewhere.
I encourage you because you, like me, may want to read the book before seeing the movie.

Any thoughts on the "orientalist" critique levied against both the book and the film?
Maya, point me to some of the "orientalist" criticisms. I googled the title and there's nothing but movie buzz.
