Living on Charlotte Street...
In Ian McEwan's novel Saturday, the protagonist, Henry Perowne, who is driving on Charlotte St. in the middle of London, asks himself : Who was the American novelist who said a man could be happy living on Charlotte Street? [p.123 in paperback edition]
Well, do you know? leave me answers in comments, okay?
And if you know the answer, what novel is the phrase to be found in?

The person who said that was author Charlotte Bronte, but it didn't come from a book. She was overheard using that line to make a pass at Saul Bellow at some college professor's Christmas party.
Thanks for the invite, these things are fun! :)
LOL!!! Anne, I appreciate your imagination more that I can say! You're so smart!
Aw shucks, 'tweren't nothing. I just make stuff up and hope for the best. I'm a big fat liar. Heh.
Anne, have you thought about what novel the phrase is from?
Isn't the book called The Dean's December, or something like that, by Saul Bellow? I could very well be mistaken.
I have no idea Anne...We'll have to ask Ian McEwan himself!
You don't know? Well, if YOU don't know, all hope must be lost. I do think I read somewhere it was a reference to a book by Saul Bellow, though. Maybe we SHOULD write to Ian McEwan!
Oh Anne I know it's Saul Bellow but I don't know the title of the book...In this case you might know more than I do.
Say, why do you think it's Saul Bellow? I just Googled the phrase and got a vague reference to him, and possibly the Dean's December book. I'm not going to read every Saul Bellow book ever written to find out though. Jeez, I'd have to like Saul Bellow an awful lot to do that! :p
I googled the phrase, Anne, and got a reference to it, but no mention of the Dean's December...Also The book Saturday by Ian McEwan references the phrase (that's how I first became aware of it see post) and the epigraph to the book is from Sail Bellow. There you go...
